We hear “Peace on Earth” a lot during this season. What can we do to actually promote it? Instead of fighting with your siblings or debating politics this holiday, consider these ideas to promote peace, both at home and around the world.
1. Promote and Practice Nonviolence
Work together to find peaceful and nonviolent ways to resolve conflicts. There is a free online I Ching tool you could try to help you think creatively about solutions.
2. Foster Dialogue and Understanding
Be open to hearing different perspectives and ask lots of questions to really understand each other. And if you want to take it up a notch, you could practice answering these 52 deep questions with a loved one – it’ll be a fun and meaningful way to connect with someone special.
3. Support Education
Learning more about a topic is always a great idea! Watching documentaries can be a really engaging and informative way to see both sides of an issue. Find a good one to dig into on DocumentaryTube.
4. Promote Equality and Justice
There are so many organizations out there working towards peace, freedom, democracy, and more – find one that resonates with you and get involved. Together, we can create a more just and equal world.
5. Practice Forgiveness
Forgiveness can be tough, but it’s also such a powerful way to build stronger and more positive relationships. By letting go of grudges and anger, we can work towards creating more peace in our own lives and in the world.
6. Show Compassion and Empathy
Compassion and empathy are essential for building understanding and connection with others. Watch Brene Brown’s video on the difference between empathy and sympathy – it’s a great way to deepen your understanding of these important concepts.
7. Promote Environmental Sustainability
Taking care of the environment is crucial for creating a peaceful world where everyone has access to the resources they need to thrive. The Center for Biological Diversity has a list of 12 ways we can all live more sustainably. See what you can do to protect the planet.
8. Work to Address Poverty and Inequality
By addressing poverty and inequality, we can work towards a more peaceful world. Whether it’s starting your own business or supporting others who have, think about ways you can promote economic opportunity and create a more equitable society.
